Parotid tumors

Abstract
A total of 20 patients of the parotid gland tumor, who was admitted in Yonsei Universtiy Hospital during the past ten years from April 1962 to March 1972, were clinically reviewed. -The following- results were obtained.
1) 12 cases were benign tumors and 8 cases were malignant tumors.

2) In the sex and age incidence of the parotid tumors benign tumors. revealed a greater prevalence
in female and 37. 4 in average age, but malignant tumors revealed a greater prevalance in male and
43. 5 in average age. discomfort on the mass. nerve paralysis.
3) Inspite of benign mixed tumor as the pathologic report 15 years previously, malignant mixed tumor was revealed.

4) The histopathology in benign tumors was: mixed tumor 11 & hemangioma 1. The malignant tumors were: Malignant mixed tumors 4, mucoepidermoid carcinoma, adenocarcinoma, undifferenciated carcinoma and metastatic squamous cell carcinomal case each.

5) All benign tumorsT were treated by surgery, but only 4 cases of. malignant tumors were resectable.
6) Although "enuclation" of various operative types is inadequate for paratid gland tumor principally, it is thought that each operater was effected during operation due to the degree of encapsulation of the tumor and probable damage to the facial nerve.
7) 4 cases of the malignant tumor had not metastazed at the time of resection. In 3. cases there was metastasis to lung, palate, bone, tonsil and nasopharynx.
